Not necessarily…
However don’t be surprised to find many Catholic perspectives throughout, as the group who come together for these monthly viewings is made up of many Catholics, as well as others who are open to the idea of transforming the culture and searching for truth, beauty and goodness in all things.
One does not have to be Catholic to recognise the inherent goodness, and the cinematic greatness of these films, nor does one have to be religious in order to care about truth, beauty, goodness and the importance they play in building a culture that celebrates human dignity and offers authentic and challenging entertainment.
However, many Catholics have been formed to see the importance of culture and entertainment, and have therefore been among the most dedicated in wishing to engage with film and to find deeper truths about the world and humanity. But the emphasis here is not primarily about reading film through the lens of faith, even if that should happen, but rather we aim to celebrate and promote classic cinema as a means to enrich the culture, and help the world of today see things with a different set of eyes, remembering the wisdom and beauty of the past, and taking that with us as we enter the future.
Most importantly, this is about watching great films and being truly entertained and enriched, simply for its own sake.
